Lessons
Albuquerque Drum Lessons is dedicated to providing the highest quality drum set education in Albuquerque. Lessons are tailored to each student's individual interests and skill level. Our educational approach is comprehensive and includes music theory, music notation writing, sight reading, transcribing, instrument technique, rudiments, classical and contemporary repertoire, worship/classical/contemporary ensemble performance skills, and competition/audition prep. This allows our students to work towards obtaining their personal goals, and also develop a strong musical understanding and foundation that will translate into all styles and musical situations.
Curriculum
Each student is provided with Albuquerque Drum Lessons' curriculum that covers music basics through advanced drum set grooves, concepts, and rudiments. In addition to our curriculum, students will learn how to make charts for their favorite songs and are also encouraged to bring in any other material they are interested in learning.
Videos
When a student enrolls in lessons, they are provided with a link to 26 videos that have examples of every exercise from the curriculum. Each exercise is played at three different tempos and includes notation to help with practicing during the week between lessons.
Gear
There are two professional quality drum kits set up next to each other to aid with demonstration and learning.
Location & Space
Lessons are held at Montgomery Church of Christ near Louisiana and Montgomery. The lesson space is clean, safe, and has plenty of room for parents and siblings to sit in on the lessons.
Pricing and payment
Lessons are $160 per month for weekly half hour lessons (two hours total per month). Please view the lesson policies page for more information about payment and scheduling.

About
Thomas is an Albuquerque native who spent the last decade studying and performing music in Chicago, Dallas, and Albuquerque. He studied Jazz Performance and Audio Engineering at UT Arlington and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2015. While in school, Thomas performed in the top big band jazz ensemble and studied with Stockton Helbing, Mike Drake, Mike Johnston, Jim Yakas, and Michael Varner. Outside of school, he has performed a wide range of styles with various artists including Sandi Patty, The Turtle Creek Chorale, musical theater groups, country artists, jazz combos, churches, and has also been commissioned to compose percussion scores for a multitude of ensembles. Now back in Albuquerque, Thomas is the founder of Albuquerque Drum Lessons, and is performing live music, teaching, and recording his original compositions.
Lesson Policies
EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to practice assigned materials throughout the week.
It is the student’s responsibility to bring lesson materials to each class (sticks, lesson book, assignment book, etc.).
Students, parents, and teachers share the responsibility of showing respect to each other and the lesson facility.
ATTENDANCE
Lessons must be canceled with a minimum of 24 hours notice to be eligible for a make-up, but make-up lessons are not guaranteed.
There are no make-ups offered for no-shows.
There are no refunds for missed lessons.
Make-up lessons or pro-rated missed lessons are only guaranteed when the teacher has to cancel.
Lessons will end promptly regardless of the student’s arrival time.
PAYMENT
Payment is due in full for the upcoming month at the first lesson of every month.
There is a one week grace period, but the second lesson will not start until payment is received.
AGREEMENT TO TERMS
Initial and continued enrollment in lessons indicates the acceptance of the policies and expectations listed above. Lesson policies are subject to change, but students will be notified if changes occur.
